On Tour with Goldfrapp
27th October 2010

We’ve had to put pictures up of RG Jones Engineer and Project Manager Steve Carr just in case we forget what he looks like! Steve set off on the Goldfrapp tour as soon as he could pull off his Glastonbury wellies! The tour has been very well received and will continue across the UK ending in on November 20th with a show in Newcastle, tickets are on sale now.
Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, both exceptional composers in their own right, together produce the wonderfully eclectic Goldfrapp. Alison’s hugely creative talent and highly distinctive voice resulted in her singing on a number of albums by cutting-edge artists while she was at University. One of her own compositions was then passed onto Will Gregory who immediately recognised their mutual passion for electronic experimentations amongst a range of cinematic soundscapes.
RG Jones have provided equipment and engineering for the Goldfrapp tour which has been travelling across the globe. From the Hollywood Bowl in LA to the Splendor Festival in Brisbane. Now just back from the European Leg, the tour begins again on the 6th November performing in venues across the UK. RG Jones project manager and FOH engineer Steve Carr runs the RG crew on-site, with our engineer Tim Wann babysitting monitors with Craig “The Wedge” Donaldson. (The nickname is to do with a cheese addiction; and not the assumed wedge monitor connection)! Craig is mixing monitors on a Digidesign Profile and the band are using Sennheiser IEM’s for monitoring.
Steve is mixing FOH on a Digidesign Venue. “The Venue has the ability to run all the third party plugs-ins that are used in the studio which is particularly important with a band like Goldfrapp because we are trying to reproduce the sound of the album live as accurately as possible. No other platform offers that” explains Steve. “For lead vocals, Alison is using a Heil Capsule as a screw-on alternative to the Shure SM58 wireless handheld and I am using an Empirical Labs Distressor EL8 for additional processing”.
